Description
A group of nine memorials is located to the south and east of the Church of St Mary in Credenhill. These memorials, which date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, are made of sandstone ashlar and feature moulded plinths and capping.
The Stephens memorial, dating to around 1837, has plain balusters and a plain rectangular inscription panel. The Hardwiche memorial is a pedestal tomb from 1822, featuring a stepped plinth, urn capping, and a rectangular inscription panel with florettes in the corners.
There are several defaced tombs in the group. One from the mid-19th century has a band of reeding with florettes below the capping and decorative balusters flanking an inscription panel with an oval inset. Another defaced tomb from the early 19th century also features balusters flanking an inscription panel. A late 18th-century defaced tomb has shaped end panels and a cartouche rectangular inscription panel.
The Powell memorial, erected in 1790, has balusters flanking a fielded inscription panel and commemorates William Powell, who died in 1790. The Griffiths memorial from 1810 features balusters flanking an inscription panel with an oval inset and florettes in the spandrel. Another Griffiths memorial from 1785 has balusters flanking fielded inscription panels. Finally, the Probert memorial, dating to 1767, is a plain rectangular chest tomb with an inscription commemorating James Probert.
