Description
The row of five memorials located south of the Church of St. Mary consists of chest tombs from the late 18th century. These tombs are arranged in a line running east to west. The Milner memorial, dating from around 1789, features a bay ended to the west with fluted inset pilasters and a moulded top slab. The Platt memorial, from approximately 1796, has waisted inset pilasters at the angles and a moulded top slab. The Robinson memorial, dating to around 1804, is similar to the Platt memorial but has more sharply waisted pilasters. Another 18th-century tomb has inset, fluted pilasters with quarter round angles and a moulded top slab, though the inscription has decayed. The Phillips memorial, dating from around 1780, features moulded pilasters and a fluted frieze with paterae at the center and angles. This memorial is likely associated with one of the Phillips families from Tean Mill and Heath House.
