Description

This barn, located about 80 yards south of Michaelchurch Court, is likely from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with extensions added in the early 19th century. The structure consists of two parts. The older section features a sandstone rubble plinth and a timber frame that is weatherboarded, with a sandstone rubble extension to the north. The roof is made of stone slate and pantiles. It has five plus one bays running roughly north to south. The west elevation includes a ledged door on the left side of the timber-framed weatherboarded section and central ledged opposed doors leading to the threshing floor. Inside, there are queen struts from the tie to the collar at the junction with the rubble extension, raking strut trusses, and wind-braces in the bays on either side of the threshing floor.

The newer section, likely from the early 19th century, is constructed of sandstone rubble with a weatherboarded east gable and a Welsh slate roof. This part has six bays aligned roughly east to west, extending westward from the southern end of the older section. The south elevation features three rows of vent slits, with four and six slits in each row on the left and right of a full-height opposed cart entry. The east gable has 12 vent slits that continue the three rows above a blocked segmental arch located centrally just above ground level. The interior of this section also has raking strut trusses and a plank ridge.
