Description

The barn located immediately southeast of The Old House dates back to the 17th century, with extensions and alterations made in the 19th century. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a stone rubble plinth, with the north end constructed of coursed stone. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and has gabled ends adorned with pierced bargeboards.

The original structure consists of a six-bay timber frame barn at the southern end, with two additional stone rubble bays and a further three bays at the northern end that were converted into a domestic outbuilding in the late 19th century. Inside, the barn includes a threshing floor and a wagon run-through located in bays three and six, respectively.

The exterior presents a long range, with the west front primarily weatherboarded, while the northern section is stone rubble. There are large double doors for cart access on either side of the center, with the left door featuring a wide gable above that has ornate pierced bargeboards. The stone part to the left includes two doorways and two windows. The east front is also weatherboarded, with a wide gable at the center flanked by cart entrances, the right entrance set within a large gabled porch.

Inside, the six timber-framed bays at the southern end have large wall posts with cut jowls, supporting 19th-century principals that are tenoned into place. The walls are constructed with studs and curved braces. The 19th-century replacement softwood roof structure consists of seven trusses, with collars mortice and tenoned to the principals and staggered purlins. The threshing floor in bay three features a pegged elm-boarded floor.
