Description
Bidney Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with extensions from the 17th century and early 19th century, along with some alterations from the mid-20th century. It is constructed of timber-frame with rendered infill, partly clad in coursed rubble, and features a slate roof. The building is arranged in an L-plan, with the 16th-century section to the east and a later range to the south.
The west front includes an early 19th-century range on the right, which has a gable-end stack and most of the elevation is rough-cast. The right side has two storeys, while the left side is one storey with an attic that is lit by a gabled dormer. There are three 2-light casement windows on the right, and the ground floor has two 2-light casements with an entrance between them. This entrance features a 2-pane overlight and a hipped slate-roofed porch. To the left, there is another entrance with a half-glazed porch.
The rear wing, dating from the 16th century, is jettied on the south and east sides, and was originally jettied on the west before the later range was built. The framing of the 16th-century section consists of close-studding with a mid-rail and straight angle braces. Two original projecting windows remain, featuring moulded sills and 4-lights with ovolo mullions and transoms, and the sides are panelled. Inside, there are exposed moulded ceiling beams and some reused smoke-blackened beams in the roof structure of the 17th-century portion.
