Description

Lower Hardwick Farmhouse is a mid-17th century farmhouse, extended in the late 17th century with alterations made in the early 19th and mid-20th centuries. The farmhouse is timber-framed with rendered infill panels set on a plinth of coursed rubble, and has a tile roof. The north-west front is two storeys high, with an attic to the right, lit by windows in the two timber-framed gables. The right portion of the front has a jettied upper level with a rubble stack, incorporating a brick shaft to its right side. The first floor has a three-light casement window with a plank weathering above, positioned to the right, and a four-light casement to the left. The ground floor has five windows; mostly single-light casements, with the rightmost window being a four-light casement. The main entrance is located on the rear (south-east) side. The timber framing is arranged in six square panels vertically, featuring scroll brackets supporting an ovolo-moulded bressummer on the jetty. The gables above have two collars and multiple struts.
