Barn And Attached Cow Shelter About 30 Yards North-West Of The Vauld Farmhouse

This building is a barn and attached cow shelter, located about 30 yards north-west of the Vauld Farmhouse. It likely dates from the late 17th century to the 18th century, with some mid-19th century elements. The barn features a timber frame with weatherboards and corrugated iron cladding and roofing. It consists of three bays aligned north-west to south-west. There are opposed central full-height entrances leading to the threshing floor, with surviving ledged doors on the north-west side. The frame is three panels high from the cill beam to the wall-plate. Inside, the plank posts supporting the ties have raking struts, and the gables contain three queen posts with collars, above which are V-struts. The north-east side has open wattle-and-plank infill leading to the adjoining cow shelter, which is from the mid-19th century. The cow shelter has a rubble rear and north-east end wall, a pantiled roof, and two posts supporting an open front. Inside, there is a wooden trough along the rear wall and iron rods positioned in the king post locations. This building faces the main front of the Vauld Farmhouse and serves as an important enclosing feature in the farmyard.
