Barn And Cowhouse Approximately 10 Metres South Of Villa Farmhouse

This building is a barn and cowhouse, located approximately 10 meters south of Villa Farmhouse. It dates from the mid-17th century to the late 17th century and has undergone some later alterations. The structure is timber framed, with part of the barn featuring rendered and concrete block infill, while the majority is weatherboarded on a rubblestone plinth. The roofs are covered with slate, some of which is graded.

The barn has a framing style with square panels, consisting of three sections from the cill to the wall-plate, and includes doorways on the left, right, and center. A vehicle bay on the east side connects the barn to the cowhouse, which is also weatherboarded and has doorways in the center and to the right. Inside the barn, there is a double-purlin roof spanning three bays, supported by queen-strut trusses, and it was formerly equipped with a loft. The cowhouse features visible framing with square panels, three from cill to wall-plate, and long straight tension braces that have been renewed and altered in the east bay. It has a single-purlin roof in three bays, incorporating a mix of queen-strut and queen-post trusses, and a stone-flag floor. At the time of the last survey in September 1986, the building was in the process of repair.
