Description
The building is a police station and courthouse located in Southwell, with the police station dated 1884 and the courthouse dating from around 1830. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features slate roofs, including three gable stacks and two ridge stacks.
The police station is situated on the right and has a chamfered plinth and cogged eaves. It is two storeys high with a four-window range of margin light sashes that have keystoned lintels. The layout is a double range plan. To the left, there is a projecting two-storey porch with a coped gable and corner pilasters, featuring a single window. Below the porch are two-leaf moulded panelled doors with a segmental overlight. To the right of the porch, there are two windows, followed by a carriage opening with wooden gatepiers but no gates.
The courthouse, located to the left, has coped gables and is also two storeys high, with a three-window range of glazing bar sashes that have keystoned lintels. It follows a double range plan as well. The entrance features an off-centre moulded panelled door with a fanlight, flanked on the left by a single window and on the right by two windows.
