Description

Burgage Manor is a house dating from the late 18th century, accompanied by an attached boundary wall. The building is finished in stucco and features a hipped slate roof. It has a plinth, a double first floor band, deep eaves, and two ridge stacks. The windows are various forms of glazing bar sashes. The house has three storeys and a three-window range. The front of the building has a slightly projecting central section with a pediment, featuring a central tripartite sash flanked by single sashes. Above this, there is a similar sash with a segmental head, also flanked by single sashes. A central Classical porch with four columns on pedestals and an entablature leads to a half-glazed door with paired flanking lights. To the left, there is a single-storey hipped service wing with a ridge stack. The attached dwarf boundary wall, which once supported a railing, has a square pier at the left end. This house was the home of Lord Byron's mother, and Byron likely lived here as a child around 1810.
