Description

62 and 64 West Gate are two houses that have been converted into a café and shop. They date from the late 17th century and mid 18th century, with alterations from the mid 19th century and late 20th century. The buildings were restored around 1989 and are constructed of coursed squared stone with stone dressings, topped with pantile and concrete tile roofs.

The structures feature a plinth and rise to two and three storeys, with a window arrangement of two over two. The three-storey gable facing the street on the right has a 19th-century traceried barge-board. There are two renewed 12-pane sash windows below and two similar sashes above, all with projecting surrounds. The shop front on the left has been altered in the 19th century, featuring a single-pane window and a glazed door. The two-storey block to the left includes two plain sashes with projecting surrounds. The ground floor has a late 19th-century wooden shop front with pilasters and a cornice, which includes a single-pane window on the left and a glazed door with an overlight on the right. To the right, there is a former entry with a stone lintel, now filled with a panel and a single-pane window. Inside the former entry, there is a 19th-century wood-cased lead pump and stone trough. The right range of the building has chamfered span beams on the ground floor.
