Description

This is an ice house, built in the late 18th century to the rear of Gateford Farmhouse. Constructed of coursed squared rubble with brick and ashlar dressings, it has two entrances. The west entrance features brick steps and an ashlar lintel leading to an inner doorway. The east entrance has a rubble ramp and a similar ashlar lintel. The interior comprises a square, rubble-lined chamber with a segmental brick vault, approximately 5 metres in each direction.
