Description
The ice house, located approximately 55 metres north-east of Manor Farmhouse, dates from the early 19th century. It features an entrance front and chamber made from re-used medieval ironstone and limestone ashlar and rubble, with the chamber covered by an earthen mound. The structure has a truncated oval shape, with the entrance facade facing south. It includes a low doorway beneath a 20th-century replacement timber lintel set in a roughly-coursed stone wall, leading to a voussoired inner arch. The barrel-vaulted chamber measures approximately 6 metres long, 3 metres wide, and 2.5 metres high. There is a blocked door to the north with a voussoired segmental arch. The entire structure is contained within an earth mound that measures approximately 10 metres by 10 metres and rises up to 3 metres above the surrounding ground level.
