Description
The ice house, located approximately 100 meters northwest of the Manor House, dates from the 19th century and was originally part of the Manor House estate. The main structure is made of mottled red brick, with the entrance flanked by walls constructed of coursed ironstone rubble. It is set into an earth mound, with the entrance facing east. The ice house features a circular chamber topped with a domed roof. Access is provided by a tunnel that has cambered vaulting and slopes downwards from the entrance. It formerly included three airlock doors, which have all been removed. The walls flanking the entrance are curved, creating a small oval enclosure that slopes downwards from the mouth of the tunnel. There is a dry ice pond located approximately 15 meters to the north.
