Description

Orchards is a house dating to around 1700, with alterations made in the late 19th century. The earlier part of the house is constructed of red and grey brick, with some exposed timber framing to the left-hand gable. The brickwork on the front of this section appears to conceal an earlier structure. A later cross-wing is built of yellow brick. Both sections have clay tile roofs. The house is arranged in a T-shaped plan, with the cross-wing being taller. The original block has two three-light casement windows on each floor; the ground floor windows have brick surrounds with flat arches. The cross-wing has two two-light casement windows on each floor, each with slightly cambered brick surrounds. All windows are small-paned metal casements. A plank door is located at the junction between the original block and the cross-wing. A timber porch with a tiled, gabled hood is positioned at the entrance. Various yellow brick chimney stacks are present, including an external stack to the left-hand gable of the main block and ridge stacks elsewhere on the building.
