Description
The stables at Gateford Hill House, built in 1824, are likely the work of architect George Grockney for Henry Machin. Constructed from ashlar stone, the building features a graduated hipped slate roof, a plinth, stone sills, and an eaves band. It is two storeys high and consists of five bays. The main east front includes, on the left, a segmental headed archway with an inscription on the soffit reading 'H M 1824'. To the right are three smaller archways of a similar design, followed by a single glazing bar sash window. Above these, there are five glazing bar casements, with the one on the right being blocked. At the top, there is an off-centre octagonal timber bell cupola with two stages. The lower stage has recessed timber panels and a clock facing east, while the upper stage features eight round-headed louvred openings, a cornice, and a leaded ogee dome topped with a ball finial. The north end of the building has a central panelled door with a blocked window above it.
