BELTON & MANTHORPE SK9239 BELTON PARK, Belton 1315-0/8/75 (West side) 21/09/79 Entrance gates and railings to The Wilderness, 150m west of Belton House (Formerly Listed as: BELTON PARK, Belton Railings, piers and gates at entrance to the Wilderness W of Belton House) GV II*

Entrance gateway and railings on the west side of Belton House Drive. Early C18, resited mid C18, and extended C19. L-plan. Wrought-iron gate with side screens and overthrow with crest, flanked by 3 bays of railing with ornamental panels, on a stone plinth. Beyond, square ashlar piers with plinths, blind-arcaded tops and moulded cornices, topped with urns. Beyond, to north, bordering Belton House Drive, a C19 cast-iron spearhead railing with stone plinth and square piers, approx 150m long. To the south east, a similar railing, approx loom long, with an off-centre double gateway and square ashlar piers. At the east end, a smaller gate. The main gateway was formerly at Hough Hall.
