Description
The front railings, walls, gateposts, and gate piers to the Manor House date from the early 18th century and 19th century. They feature wrought-iron railings, sandstone ashlar gate piers, and coursed rubble walls. At the north end of the railings, there is an 18th-century ashlar pier with banded rustication on the front and back, topped with a cornice that is overgrown with ivy and not visible. A low wall with canted coping supports plain railings with pointed bars, which are interrupted in the center by two smaller gateposts that are circular in shape and resemble cannon, complete with ball finials. There is a modern wrought-iron gate that is not of special interest. The large gate pier at the south end of the railings has only its lowest courses remaining, as the rest was replaced during the remodelling of the south-east wing. This structure is included for its group value.
