Description
This is a pair of statues located on the North Terrace at Belton House, dating from the early 18th century. They are made of marble and are life-size figures set on moulded square bases. The female figure on the west side holds a posy, while the male figure on the right is depicted with a spade. Architectural historian Pevsner suggests that these figures may be attributed to C. G. Cibber, who created a nearby sundial for Sir John Brownlow in the late 17th century. However, Marsden and Barber describe them as Italian and from the 18th century. Belton House is situated within Belton Park, which is listed on the Gardens Register at grade I.
