Description
The steps and pair of statues on the North Terrace at Belton House were likely created in the late 17th century. They consist of seven ashlar steps with low balustrade walls, slightly moulded coping, and square pedestals. At the top of the steps, there are two life-size figures dressed in Classical costume. Architectural historian Pevsner suggests that these figures may be attributed to C. G. Cibber, who also carved a nearby sundial for Sir John Brownlow around 1685 to 1700. However, Marsden and Barber describe the figures as being Italian and from the 18th century. This feature is located within Belton Park, which is listed on the Gardens Register at grade I.
