Description
The steps at the south end of the Italian Garden, located 100 metres northwest of Belton House, were built around 1810 by the architect Jeffry Wyatville. These steps are made of ashlar and consist of three sets of plain steps without balustrades, positioned centrally on the terrace and at each end. The central set features pedestals topped with lions, while the end sets have similar pedestals topped with pine cones. These steps are part of several estate buildings designed by Wyatville for the first Earl Brownlow of Belton House, constructed between 1810 and 1820. The site is situated within Belton Park, which is listed on the Garden Register at grade I.
