Description
The Municipal Offices, located at No. 2 St Mary's Hill, were built in the late 18th century and feature three storeys constructed from coursed rubble with a stone plinth, parapet, and decorative stone dressings. The building is topped with a moulded modillion cornice.
On the first floor, there are five windows, including a Venetian window and a three-window frontage, all fitted with glazing bars except for one. Each window is adorned with straight stone arches that are rusticated and feature triple keystones. The second floor has a semi-circular window with a triple keystone, where the central part is a double-hung sash with glazing bars. Below the Venetian window, there is an elliptical coach arch that also has a triple keystone and an impost band.
The centre of the building projects forward, and the main entrance is located in the middle of the five-window block, framed by a heavy stone case. The door, situated in the centre of the three-window block, is surrounded by a stone surround with a triple keystone and features six panels along with a glazed fanlight in a rectangular reveal. A band runs along the cills of all the windows, and there are three steps leading up to the door, complemented by a small curved cast iron handrail.
Nos. 1 to 3 St Mary's Hill form a group with the Municipal Offices.
