Description

The Riverside Club is a building dating from 1849, designed by architect Edward Browning. It stands two storeys tall and is constructed from small coursed rubble with stone dressings and quoins. The building features a stone slate roof with stone-capped gable ends. The centre has a gabled section topped with a finial and includes a window with two lights beneath a moulded label. A moulded string course runs between the storeys and continues to the head of a canted oriel, which has four lancet lights beneath a stone roof. The plinth, made of heavy stone blocks, projects to support the oriel.

There is a four-centred door set in a stone surround, with a date displayed below a moulded label. The chimneys are topped with crenellated features. The rear portion of the building, now functioning as a club, was originally built as a warehouse and includes two storeys and attics, with carriage doors and various windows under wooden lintels. The river elevation showcases three 19th-century semi-dormers with cusped lunettes in the gables, along with two dormers featuring casements to the right. The building is visually significant from the St Martin's approach to the town and forms a cohesive composition with the bridge, St Martin's, and No 4.
