Description

The building at 5 and 6 Market Street is a mid-18th century structure, originally three storeys high, built of red brick with a modern tile roof. It features a stone plinth and a moulded stone eaves cornice. The front has four windows with stone lintels, keystones, and hung sashes with glazing bars. Brick bands delineate the floors. A substantial wooden door case with pilasters, a cornice supported on consoles, and a good rectangular fanlight is accessed by three steps. A coach arch, also with a keystone, is located to the side, with a window of three lights and a stone lintel with keystone above it on the first floor within the arch. A modern ground floor has been built forward. Nos. 3 to 6 form a cohesive group.
