Description
Welland House, the Junior House of the Girls' High School, is a large house built in 1795, featuring two storeys and attics. The exterior is constructed of coursed rubble with stone dressings and a plinth. It has a mansard roof covered with stone slates and four dormers, which have segmental heads and double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The gable ends are capped with stone.
The house has five windows, all double-hung sashes with glazing bars, and the lintels and cills are extended to form bands. There are triple keystones and rusticated surrounds around the windows. A rectangular fanlight and a semi-circular wrought iron lamp on a bracket are positioned above the 19th-century door, which is accompanied by a 19th-century cast iron balustrade leading to two moulded stone steps.
Welland House is part of a group that includes Nos 10 to 12, the Registered Office of J & B North & Sons Ltd, the Wire Store of J & B North, and Nos 14 and 15.
