DENTON HARSTON ROAD SK 8632-8732 (south side) 10/59 Gateway (known as Inigo Jones gateway) 90 metres south east of Denton Manor, in Denton Park 21.9.79 G.V. I Gateway and piers. Mid C17, probably by John Webb, with minor C19 alterations. Ashlar. Semi-circular headed central arch with impost blocks and rusticated raised keystone, flanked by rusticated Tuscan pillars supporting a plain entablature with broken segmental pediment with ball finial at centre. The base of the frieze over the arch returns as bifurcated ribbons to either side of the keystone. To either side are engaged square gate piers with rusticated panels, side scrolls and ball finials. A short length of C19 railing links the similar outer piers. All rusticated surfaces are vermiculated. The demolished Welby Almshouses which were dated 1653 had a similar detail to the bifurcated ribbon
