Description
Denton Manor House is a house dating from the 17th century, with significant alterations and additions made in 1953 and 1965 by Marshall Sisson for Sir Bruno Welby. The building is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble with ashlar quoins and features a Collyweston diminishing coursed slate roof, complete with stone coped gables and a single ashlar ridge and gable stacks. It has an L-shaped plan and is two storeys high with attics, presenting a five-bay front. The leftmost bay is a 1953 addition, which is advanced and has its own gable.
The house has a chamfered stone plinth and an off-centre 20th-century planked door set within a chamfered ashlar surround topped with a moulded cornice. To the right of the door is a four-light window, while to the left, beyond the garden wall, there are two additional four-light windows. In the advanced bay, there are two pairs of 20th-century French doors. On the first floor, there are three three-light windows, and to the left, a 20th-century glazing bar three-light window. The gabled dormer on the right features a two-light window, and all windows are adorned with chamfered mullions and moulded cornices.
Historically, there were three former houses in Denton Park, with the last one, built in 1883 by Sir Arthur Blomfield, being demolished around 1940.
