Description
Sudeley Castle features a gateway located about 20 meters north of the Church of St Mary. This gateway, likely built in the mid-19th century for J. Dent, is constructed from ashlar stone and is set within a garden wall. The side facing the chapel has a boarded door with studs, a chamfered arris at the opening, and a semi-circular head. It includes plain projecting impost blocks and a keystone. On either side of the gateway, there are Roman Doric pillars resting on high bases, with a moulded cornice and a plain frieze that projects over the pillars. The pillars are topped with moulded caps and pyramidal finials on gadrooned bases. This gateway forms a group with the Church and Castle.
