Description
The Mill Building is a disused paper mill from the early 19th century. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features open timber slatted ventilators on timber framing at the top floor, topped with a low-pitched hipped slate roof. The building has three storeys and a four-windowed facade. The ground and first floors have sash windows with glazing bars and stooled stone cills, while the second floor has a continuous ventilating opening. At the right-hand end, there is a large flat segmental-headed opening with a pair of plank doors beneath a paired sash window with a square central mullion. On the south end, there are sashes to the right on three floors, similar to the main front, and this side is accessed by 13 stone steps leading to a plank door, with another opening on the top floor. The opposite facade, which faces the courtyard, mirrors this long side. This building is a rare and well-preserved example of a mill structure in a town that once had many mills.
