5/19 Farm buildings at Thorns Farm. 18.5.88 G.V. II

Farm buildings. 1852, some C20 alterations. Built for the Whichcote family of Aswarby Park. Red brick in English garden wall bond of 3, slate roofs. Originally single, now double, crewyard with enclosing ranges plan with pigeoncote to the west and a barn to the north. The west front has single storey ranges with dentillated eaves courses, a 2 storey pigeoncote to the centre and a gable to the left hand end. It contains 2 doorways and a planked door, all with segmental arched heads and a matching blocked window. To first floor of the pigeoncote is a blank semi circular headed opening. To the inner side is a planked door and to the ridge is the base only of a timber flight tower. The barn has a 2 storey 5 bay front with dentillated eaves course. Off centre double planked doors beneath a basket arch with to the left 3 waggon openings with brick piers and timber lintels. To right is a lozenge shaped breather. To first floor are 3 louvered openings and a planked opening, all with segmental brick heads.
