Description

The farm buildings at Thorns Farm were constructed in 1852, with some alterations made in the 20th century. They were built for the Whichcote family of Aswarby Park. The buildings are made of red brick in English garden wall bond of three and feature slate roofs. Originally designed as a single crewyard, they now form a double crewyard with enclosing ranges, which includes a pigeoncote to the west and a barn to the north.

The west front displays single-storey ranges with dentillated eaves courses, a two-storey pigeoncote at the center, and a gable on the left end. It features two doorways and a planked door, all with segmental arched heads, along with a matching blocked window. The first floor of the pigeoncote has a blank semi-circular headed opening, while the inner side has a planked door and the base of a timber flight tower at the ridge.

The barn has a two-storey front with five bays and dentillated eaves courses. It has off-center double planked doors beneath a basket arch, with three wagon openings to the left supported by brick piers and timber lintels. To the right, there is a lozenge-shaped breather. The first floor features three louvered openings and a planked opening, all with segmental brick heads.
