Description

The Old Smithy is a former smithy, now used as a store, built in 1846 for the Whichcote family of Aswarby Park. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with a slate roof and featuring two gable stacks. The building has a single-storey, three-bay front, with the middle bay being advanced and gabled. There is a central planked door flanked by single fixed plain lights, and all openings have segmental arched heads. Above the door, an ashlar panel displays a large horseshoe and the date 1846. To the left, there is a slightly recessed shoeing bay with double planked doors and a segmental ashlar inner arch.
