Description
Nos. 6 and 7 on Main Street are a pair of estate cottages built in 1845 for the Whichcote family of Aswarby Park. The cottages are constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. They have slate roofs with raised stone coped gables and moulded kneelers. The roof includes a single ridge and a pair of gable stacks, which have ashlar lozenge twin funnels and stepped cornices.
The front of the cottages is a single storey plus attics and consists of six bays. It features two gabled porches with chamfered segmental outer arches that display the Whichcote cypher, along with four two-light windows. In the roof, there are four gabled two-light through-eaves dormers with ashlar cheeks. All windows are framed with chamfered rectangular surrounds, and the ground floor windows have chamfered timber mullions and moulded heads.
