Description
Nos. 1 and 2 Wood Lane are a pair of estate cottages built around 1850 for the Whichcote family of Aswarby Park. The cottages are constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and feature slate roofs with raised stone coped gables and moulded kneelers. Each cottage has two banks of triple ashlar ridge stacks with diamond set funnels.
The front of the cottages is a single storey plus attics, consisting of four bays with four windows on the ground floor and four gabled dormers that extend through the eaves. The dormers have raised stone coped gables, moulded kneelers, and ashlar cheeks. All windows are two-light plain casements with chamfered timber mullions. At either end of the cottages are slightly projecting gabled porches, each with glazed doors set beneath chamfered segmental arches. The gables display the Whichcote cypher. The cottages have been altered in the 20th century.
