Description
Thorns Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1852 for the Whichcote family of Aswarby Park. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. It has two gable stacks with moulded and dentillated ashlar cornices, as well as a single plain gable stack on the rear range. The farmhouse is designed in an L-plan and has a two-storey, three-bay front. The middle bay is slightly advanced and includes an open pediment with a dentillated eaves cornice.
The central entrance consists of glazed double doors adorned with bordered stained glass lights and a stained glass fanlight, all set within a semi-circular arched surround that has plain ashlar impost and key blocks. On either side of the entrance are single glazing bar sash windows. The first floor features three similar windows, all of which have cambered brick heads and flush splayed ashlar lintels. In the central gable, there is an ashlar plaque displaying the date 1852 in raised letters.
