Description

No. 6 Lindum Road is a house that has been converted into offices. It was built in the late 18th century, refronted in the mid-19th century, and restored between 1989 and 1990. The building is constructed of brick with a stucco front and features hipped slate roofs with two side wall stacks.

The exterior includes a vermiculated basement, quoins, a modillion cornice, and a coped parapet. It has two storeys plus a basement and consists of three bays. The east front showcases a hexastyle Doric loggia with a balustrade and an attractive iron balcony railing. Under the loggia, there is a central round-headed glazed door flanked by single square bay windows, all featuring glazing bars. The basement has five plain openings, with the outer ones being segment-headed. On the first floor, a central round-headed glazed door is flanked by single segment-headed windows that include mullions and transoms, all adorned with moulded architraves and multiple keystones. To the left, there is a set-back entrance corridor with a round-arched opening supported by double Ionic columns set in a rusticated wall, and inside, there is a matching blind arcade.

The interior boasts a noteworthy open well stair with a landing gallery, featuring a foliated cast-iron balustrade, superimposed iron columns, and a glass dome with enriched borders. The front ground floor rooms are enhanced by high-quality Adam style ceilings, wall panels, and fireplaces. The interior remains particularly complete and original.
