Description
Number 3 and attached grotto is a house dating from around 1840, with later 19th-century additions. It is constructed of gault brick with stone dressings and has a hipped slate roof with three side wall stacks. The house features a chamfered plinth, quoins, a moulded first-floor band, two string courses, and wooden eaves with modillions. It is two storeys high and consists of three bays. The left side has a recessed entrance bay with a round-arched doorway featuring pilasters and a mask keystone. The east front incorporates a slightly projecting wing to the left with a canted bay window and, above it, a triple sash with a stepped head. To the right are two sash windows with cornices, and above them, two sashes with eared architraves.
The interior includes a dogleg staircase with turned balusters. The stairwell has a cornice and a domed skylight with a dentilled border. The drawing room features an enriched cornice, an Adam-style frieze, pilasters to the bay window, and a Classical-style wooden fireplace. Attached to the rear is a late 19th-century grotto, built of stone.
