Description

Nos 40 and 42 Upgate are a pair of 18th-century buildings located on the west side of Upgate. They are two storeys tall and have a rough rendered exterior with a pantile roof. The buildings feature three windows, with the center window being smaller and having marginal glazing. There are two 19th-century shop fronts that include plain pilasters, and a tiled stall riser displaying the name 'Blacksmith'. A modern door with a flat arch is located in the center. These buildings are listed as part of a group, with Nos 36 to 52 (even) forming this group.
