Description
Kitts Farm Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that has been altered in the late 18th century and the 20th century. Originally built with mud and stud, it is now cased in brick and features a corrugated iron roof over thatch, with a brick ridge stack. The cottage has a two-unit layout, originally designed with a lobby entry plan, and is a single storey with garrets. The front has three bays, including a central two-light casement window, a glazing bar fixed light to the left, and a two-light sliding sash to the right. The verge and gable are covered with weatherboarding. Inside, there is a clasped purlin roof and a large tie beam positioned 1 foot 6 inches above the floor level. A slightly chamfered first-floor has been added in the late 18th century, featuring beams and joists. The original ladder stair leading to the garret remains in use.
