Description

Tithe Farm House is a farmhouse that dates back to the 15th century, with extensions made in 1569 and alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a partly timber frame that is cased in brick, along with a brick wing from 1569 that displays diaper work in burnt headers. The roof is made of concrete pantiles from the 20th century, with raised brick coped gables and stone kneelers, as well as one axial and two brick gable stacks, one of which is external. The house has a T-plan layout, with the main range originally being timber framed and featuring a lobby entry, alongside a cross wing and an added parlour range.

It is two storeys high, with the cross wing having a plinth and an irregular five-bay front. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed panelled door with a segmental head, flanked on the left by a three-light glazing bar casement. On the first floor, there is a similar window, a two-light glazing bar sash, and two fixed leaded lights in the gable of the cross wing. An ashlar datestone inscribed "A 1569" is located on the external stack of the parlour gable, above which is a woolsack with a shield inscribed "IOB" and a flag, likely representing a woolmark. Inside the main range, there is one large earth-fast rounded timber bay post, and on the first floor, tie beams are positioned approximately 4 inches above floor level, indicating the former existence of an open hall of three bays.
