Description

The Forge is a former school building, dating to 1819, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is now a cottage. The building is constructed of red brick with a steeply pitched roof covered in concrete interlocking tiles, featuring a central ridge stack. The two-storey, three-bay front has corbelled eaves. An off-centre entrance is flanked to the left by a 20th-century two-light casement window and to the right by a sash window with glazing bars. The first floor has two sash windows with glazing bars, set within the eaves. Ground floor window and door openings have segmental brick heads. A plaque, originally displayed at the later primary school in the village, records the school’s foundation in 1819 by George Lill for 20 poor boys.
