Description

Fen Farm House is a late 17th-century farmhouse with alterations made in the early 19th century. It is timber-framed and cased in red brick, with a corrugated iron roof replacing what was originally thatch. A central ridge stack is a prominent feature. The house follows a lobby entry, T-plan layout. It is a single storey building with garrets, and has an irregular four-bay front. An off-centre planked door is flanked by single two-light glazing bar fixed windows, with a small sliding sash window to the left. All openings have timber lintels. A later pent roof extension is located to the left. The ground floor has bay posts at 6-inch centres, supporting jowled supports for the first floor. The beams are simply splayed and stop-chamfered, along with the fireplace girder. The ladder leading to the servants’ quarters remains in position.
