Description

Nos. 84, 86, and 88 Wide Bargate is a house and shop, currently functioning as an opticians, built in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick with stucco dressings and features a hipped slate roof with three ridge stacks, two of which have been reduced. It stretches between Bargate End and Horncastle Road and has rounded corners at each end.

The exterior consists of three storeys with a five-bay front arranged in a 2:3 configuration. On the left side, there is a panelled doorway with a radiating fanlight and Doric half-columns supporting an open pediment. This doorway is flanked by plain sash windows. To the right, there is a similar door and doorcase, with a plain sash window to the left and another plain sash window to the right. The right-hand corner features a shop front with glazing bars beneath a fascia that has a dentilled cornice and console brackets at each end. On the first floor, there are five plain sash windows, and on the second floor, there are five smaller plain sash windows. All windows have cambered heads and wedge stucco lintels. Each return of the building has a plain sash window on both the first and second floors. The interior has not been inspected.
