Description
The Georgians is a building consisting of three houses, now functioning as an old people's home. It was originally constructed in 1786 and has been partially rebuilt and extended in the 20th century. The structure is made of red brick in Flemish bond and features a plain tiled roof with a brick coped gable on the right, along with two gable and three ridge stacks.
The exterior is two storeys plus attics, with an 18-bay front arranged in a pattern of 5:3:5:5. The eight bays on the left are a 20th-century copy. There is a low cement rendered plinth, a brick band, and a dentilled wooden eaves cornice. The two original houses each have five bays, featuring central six-panelled doors with traceried fanlights, set within plain pilastered doorcases topped with open pediments and panelled reveals. The 20th-century range has a matching doorcase at the centre of its five-bay section. The windows are glazing bar sashes with flat rubbed brick arches and stucco keystones. The roof includes eleven gabled dormers, each with leaf roofs and cheeks, and glazing bar sash windows. Notably, No. 52 retains a mid-18th century staircase. The interior has not been inspected.
