Description

This outbuilding, located immediately behind Number 70 on High Street in Castle Donington, is of various 17th century constructions, with parts rebuilt in the 19th century and significantly refurbished in the 20th century. The three bays on the right are timber-framed, featuring diagonal braces and 20th century brick infill, while part of the lower walls has been rebuilt in 20th century brick. The right end and rear of the building retain an original high stone base. The left bays have been rebuilt in brick during the 19th and 20th centuries. The roofs are covered with plain tiles, and the building is mostly lofted, comprising a total of six bays. The timber-framed bays include irregular 20th century leaded casements and three board doors on the right, along with one door to the upper storey accessed by a flight of brick steps. The brick bays feature three doors and one 20th century leaded cross casement. The range continues to the left, but the far part has been altered and lacks special architectural interest. Inside, the building retains original trusses, with the truss between the right bays being closed off. The truss between bays two and three is likely from the late 16th to 17th century. This outbuilding is included for its group value.
