Description

CASTLE DONINGTON HIGH STREET SK 4426-4526 (west side) 10/82 Outbuilding immediately to rear of No 70 GV II

Outbuilding. Various C17 builds, part rebuilt C19 and much refurbished C20. 3 bays to right are timber-framed with diagonal braces and C20 brick infill, part of the lower walls rebuilt in brick C20. Right end and rear retains original high stone base. Left bays rebuilt in brick C19 and C20. Plain tile roofs. Mostly lofted. 6 bays in all. Timber framed bays have irregular C20 leaded casements and 3 board doors to right, one door to upper storey with flight of brick steps. Brick bays have 3 doors and one C20 leaded cross casement. Range continues to left but far part is too altered and not of special architectural interest. Interior retains original trusses, that between right bays closed. Truss between bays 2 and 3 is probably late C16-C17. Included for group value.
