Description
The structure consists of garden walls, railings, gate piers, gates, and steps at the front of Number 72. The gate piers date from around 1730 to 1740 and are made of rusticated ashlar, featuring moulded bases and capitals topped with pine-cone finials. There are two sets of piers: one pair flanks the driveway to the left, while the other pair flanks the gates leading to the steps up to the front door of the house.
On either side and between the sets of piers are early to mid-19th century brick dwarf walls with stone copings and cast iron railings. The railings, which date from the same period, include finials with fleur-de-lys on alternate rails. A further section of dwarf wall with railings curves back from the pier to the right of the driveway. The central pair of gates, also from the early to mid-19th century, resemble the railings and feature a ramped design leading down to a central lotus finial. The lower railings of the gate have a frieze of roundels. To the right, there is a high stone garden wall.
