Description

No. 75 High Street is a house from the mid to late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th to early 20th century. It features roughcast over brick, dentil eaves, a slate roof, and stone-coped gables with shaped kneelers, along with roughcast chimneys. The building has an L-plan and stands three storeys tall with an attic. The left bay projects and has a gabled front. Its gable end includes a small two-light wooden window on the ground floor, a canted oriel window with three-pane sashes and a flat roof on the first floor, a Venetian window with a raised surround, keyblock, and sashes on the second floor, and a lunette in a raised surround with a keyblock in the attic. There is a small single-storey extension to the left. The right return has two bays of boxed three-pane sashes; the near bay features two-light casements on the ground floor and a gabled attic dormer, along with a six-panelled door topped by a 20th-century lean-to hood. The far bay has a six-panelled door at first floor level, framed by an architrave surround with a flat wooden hood and keyblock. Another bay of sashes with keyblocks is located to the right. Inside, there are fine plaster ceiling cornices, with the cornice in the front left bay featuring modillions, and a good 18th-century staircase with turned balusters, shaped scroll tread ends, and a wreathed handrail.
