Description

No. 2 Hall Walk is a house built in the early 19th century, with alterations made around 1900. It features a red brick exterior with rendered dressings, a hipped slate roof, and brick chimneys. The building is two storeys high and has three bays. It has a rendered plinth and band courses at the first floor and sill levels, along with a moulded render cornice beneath a brick parapet. The parapet rises to a taller central bay, which includes a giant blind arch and a moulded cornice. There are giant pilasters at the outer corners of the building. The outer bays feature large bay windows from around 1900, which have panelled wooden friezes, cornices, and stained glass in the top lights. Above these are sash windows with gauged heads. The centre of the first floor has a Venetian window set in a rendered surround, adorned with pilasters, husk-swag friezes, and paired console brackets below the sill. The central entrance has a 20th-century half-glazed door with a rectangular fanlight that is marginally glazed, framed by a rendered Doric doorcase.

On either side of the main building are single-storey bays with ramped parapets and gauged depressed arches, which have been blocked and now contain 3-pane sash windows. Inside, there is a circular entrance hall with arched niches flanking the entry to the rear hall, and another arched niche in the room to the right. A 19th-century staircase is located in the rear well and features a bowed end. There are also said to be traces of a timber structure concealed in the right wall.
