Description
The Monument to Charles Brook, dating from around 1872, is located on Blaby Road in Enderby. It commemorates Charles Brook, who lived from 1813 to 1872. The monument features a square stone base with two polygonal steps leading up to a cylindrical pedestal made of polished granite, which has an inscription as well as a moulded capital and base. Atop the pedestal is a short quatrefoil pier crafted from white marble, adorned with a stiff-leaf capital. The front shaft of the pier displays a carved portrait head within a mandorla-type arrangement. Above this is a carved figure of an angel, depicted kneeling on one knee, with small children sheltered under its wings. Charles Brook was known for funding the rebuilding of the church opposite the monument and likely also contributed to the construction of the nearby school.
