Description

The Checkered Cottage is a house with an adjoining cottage and workshop, now functioning as a house. It dates from the early 18th century, was raised in the late 18th century, and has early 19th and 20th-century additions. The building is constructed of brick and coursed ironstone, topped with steeply pitched corrugated iron roofs. It is comprised of one and two storeys and features five bays.

The front façade has a two-bay house on the right, characterized by a rubble plinth, checkered brickwork, and dentillated eaves. The central door is flanked by single three-light casements with segmental heads. Above the door, there are two 19th-century three-light casements with flat heads. To the left is the former cottage, which has a three-light sliding sash window and a close boarded door to its right. The former workshop, located further left, features an altered 19th-century two-light casement and a 20th-century casement. Beyond this, there is a corrugated iron shed.
