Description
Chestnut Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century, with mid and late 19th century additions. It is constructed of coursed and squared ironstone and brick, featuring limestone ashlar dressings and slate roofs. The building has a plinth, a first floor cill band, dentillated eaves, and four brick gable stacks. It is three storeys high and has three bays, arranged in an L-plan.
The west front is made of brick and has a central recessed panelled door with an overlight, surrounded by a wooden door surround and a bracketed hood. The line of a former pediment is still visible on the upper brickwork. On either side of the door are single glazing bar sashes, all of which have flat brick arches.
On the north side, to the left, there is a casement window, with a similar casement above it, both featuring segmental heads. The rear of the farmhouse has a small lean-to addition on the left, which includes a door and a casement window. To the right of this addition is a two-storey lean-to with a sliding sash window that has a segmental head, and above it is a barred sliding sash. There are also single-storey rear additions to the south, including a small barred casement, two large plank doors, and a three-light sliding sash window.
